  2. Grade Level News Pre-Kindergarten Kindergarten April shower bring May flowers. We are hoping for pretty weather in April so that we can get outside more during this next month. In this next month we will be talking about nature, spring, farms and the zoo. Along with our zoo unit will come a fabulous field trip to Greenville Zoo. We are so excited to go and see all the animals and habitats. Along with Spring comes new plantings in our raised bed outside. We can't wait to see will be planted this season. Watch for our new vegetables as you drop off and pick up your children. Happy Spring!! It’s April and we have almost completed the entire alphabet in phonics! We are going to begin studying consonant blends and other phonics rules for the remainder of the year. In math, we will be diving deeper into concepts that we have learned this year in order to get ready for 1st grade. In science, we will be studying lifecycles and changes in our world. In social studies, we will be studying some mapping skills. We have seen a lot of growth in our kindergartners this year! It is so exciting to watch as they blossom into first graders! First Grade Second Grade March was a wonderful month for second grade. Our students enjoyed creating a business for their economics unit. They sold bookmarks, healthy food, cupcakes, temporary tattoos and much more. We are looking forward to what we have planned in April. In reading, students will be summarizing and paraphrasing a variety of texts. In math, students will begin measurement. They will be measuring objects to the nearest inch and centimeter. Our caterpillars have arrived and the students are observing them daily waiting for them to form into a chrysalis and eventually a butterfly. The students will enjoy watching the lifecycle of a butterfly unfold in our very own classroom. Students will also be learning about other lifecycles of animals. We are moving full steam ahead in the final nine weeks. It is hard to believe that this is the beginning of the last nine weeks! First grade is turning up the heat as we still have so many things to learn. Reading fluently and comprehending are on the top of our list. Please continue to read nightly with your child and encourage them to take AR tests. We will be reviewing, reviewing, reviewing in math but will also add nonstandard measurement to our list of things to master before year end. Science activities will include the study of rocks and minerals and force and motion. We will cover Economic and Jobs People Do for units in Social Studies. We appreciate your support! Third Grade Fourth Grade Fourth graders are blooming with knowledge as we begin to wind down our school year towards graduation! During the month of April, our math units of study will focus on classifying geometric figures, identifying types of lines, determining line symmetry in shapes, measuring and identifying types of angles, measuring with both metric and customary systems, interpreting line plots with fractional data, and converting between units of measure. In reading and writing, we will be completing our poetry and figurative language unit. Students will get a chance to read and write a variety of poems. They will even compose their own poems on interactive sites or publish them while in the Computer Lab! We will also begin our intensive EOG spiral review covering all of our 4th grade standards for math and reading. For science, fourth graders will sTeam along the track as they learn about forms of energy, magnetism, electricity, and matter. Thank you for all of your support! Happy Spring! Third Grade is very excited that Spring is here!! April is national poetry month. Third graders have been studying poetry, learning about figurative language, and writing poems. We hope you can join us for the Poetry Cafe. During April we will continue our math unit on geometry, as well as begin a cumulative review of all the math vocabulary and concepts that we have learned this year. There will be LOTS of continued focus on fractions and memorization of multiplication facts. Our solar system unit is coming to an end. Students have created posters, powerpoints, and plays about our planets, sun and moon. We will begin a new social studies unit on local heroes. Each week we are working on RTA standards and passages. Thank you for your continued support!
