  3. Literary Period Literature was a huge part of the renaissance era There were many famous writers during this time, Machiavelli is one of them Poetry started to play a large role in literature in this era A major author during the renaissance era was Francesco Petrarch

  4. Literary Continued… Many people could speak multiple languages A lot of people during this time could not read or write Giovanni Boccaccio became very popular writer as well

  5. Literary Continued. Giovanni Boccaccio’s major work was the Decameron The Decameron was a collection of one hundred stories told by ten storytellers who have fled to the outskirts of Florence to escape the black plague over ten nights

Social Elements The social life of people during the renaissance was very eventful Clothing styles were influenced by Medieval and Gothic designs, as well as the Italian Renaissance movement in art By the 15th century it started to change again, Renaissance fashions began to follow German styles

  7. Social Elements Continued… Social Class status had to do with a lot of things The social class depended on where you went, what you ate, and where you sat at in major events Your social class also depended on what kind of house you lived in

  9. Religious Elements Martin Luther was the most prominent leader of religion in this era He presented the 95 thesis and that you didn’t need to pay for salvation(indulgences) This started the protestant reformation in the renaissance era

Religious Elements Continued… The protestant reformation was not the only denomination that was brought up during the renaissance era Others such as: Church of England and Jesuit Order of Roman Catholic Priests The church is still split today which has created many different denominations within Christianity.

  12. Political Elements The kings, dukes, earls, and other nobles dominated the Political arena The High class clashed with the low class in view of political standings The low class wanted a republic which is run by the people in the government The High class wanted a complete monarch

  13. Political Elements Continued… Machiavelli wrote a book to help leaders in power, but actually received consequences for it High class civilians eventually ran the government.. The Medici, a high class family, was in control

  15. Artistic Elements Sculpture was the first of the fine arts to display Renaissance traits Donatello Created a nude statue of David Donatello created the first nude bronze statue of David

  16. Artistic Elements Continued… Well-known artists from the Renaissance movement include; Donatello, Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael, and Michelangelo Many artist liked using ideas and stories from the Bible to paint their pictures They built churches mainly but also other many significant buildings

  18. Interesting Facts People competed in events such as jousting and if they won then they got to keep their opponents armor

  19. Interesting Facts You could distinguish between the rich and poor by their clothing. The rich took a lot of pride in what they wore and tried to wear the nicest things available
