  3. Artemis Story • She was born on Ortygia after her mother had been tormented by a snake and she found relief on this island owned by her sister. After she was born she helped her younger brother Apollo be born which is why she is the goddess of childbirth. When Zeus saw her he wanted to give her what ever she wanted so he asked her what she wanted, she said: Bow & Arrows, All the worlds mountains as her playground, Just one city named after her, Eternal Virginity. So Zeus had the Cyclopes forge a silver bow and a fill of quiver arrows for her. Then he named 30 cities after her and named her as the worlds guardian of the roads, and harbors.

  7. Apollo’s Story • Apollo was born 9 days after Artemis on Ortygia. He is the son of Zeus and Leto. The reason he is represented by a Laurel Branch is because he was trying to woo a mountain nymph named Daphne. He tried to get her to fall in love with him but had to eliminate his opponent, Lecippus. Now he was truly free to woo her and she refused him and ultimately refused him and turned into a laurel tree to get away from him. He had 9 children but never married.
