  4. Eating Disorders • Body Image is the feeling a person has about his or her appearance • An eating disorder is an emotional disorder in which a person chooses harmful eating patterns.

  5. Binge Eating Disorder • An eating disorder in which a person frequently stuffs himself with food. • *Compulsive overeating • *A common cause of obesity

  6. Teens with Binge Eating Disorder risk: • 1. Premature heart disease • 2. Diabetes • 3. High blood pressure • 4. Certain types of Cancer

  7. Bulimia Nervosa • A eating disorder in which a person stuffs himself with food then rids the body of the food • They vomit or use laxatives

  8. Teens with Bulimia Nervosa risks: • 1. Dental Problems from acid in vomit • 2. Sore gums • 3. Heartburn • 4. Dry & brittle hair

  9. Teens with Bulimia Nervosa risks: • 5. Swollen cheeks & face. • 6. Irregular bowel movements • 7. Increase in blood pressure • 8. Stomach Cramps • 9. Damage to kidneys, colon &heart.

  10. Anorexia Nervosa • An eating disorder in which a person starves himself and has a low body weight • Females develop this eating disorder more than males. • They use diet pills, laxatives, and exercise to lose more weight.

  11. Teens with Anorexia risk: • 1. Malnutrition • 2. Damage to kidneys, heart and other body organs. • 3. Weakness & Fatigue

  12. Teens with Anorexia risk: • 4. Hair loss or dull hair • 5. Dull & Yellow skin • 6. Growth of excess body hair • 7. Absence of menstruation period in females
