  3. Was born on December 12th, 1745 in New York City, New York. His parents were Peter Jay and Mary Van Cortlandt . Soon after John was born, he moved to Rye, New York where he grew up as a child. Early Life & Childhood Childhood

  4. At the age of 30, John Jay married Sarah Livingston on April 28th 1774.

  5. Sarah and John had six children: Peter, Susan, Maria, Ann, William and Sarah.

  6. Education John Jay was educated by private tutors until the age of eight. In 1774 John gradated from Kings College, now known as Columbia University. After his graduation he became a law clerk for Benjamin Kissam.

  7. Career Path John Jay is known for several of his careers such as being an American politician, a statesman, revolutionary diplomat, a founding father of the United States, and a first chief justice of the United states from 1789 to 1795.

  8. Major Events: In 1768 John established a legal practice and worked there until he created his own law office in 1771. He was a Founding Father, and a First Chief Justice of the United States.

  9. Death On May 17th 1879, John Jay died from Palsy, probably caused by a stroke. He had chosen to be buried in Rye, New York where he grew up as a child.
