  1. Pending State Board of Education approval in October, the new requirements state that teachers of grades kindergarten through twelve must complete the following during each five-year renewal cycle: • 1 renewal credit in their academic subject areas (aligned to Standards 3 and 4) • 1 renewal credit addressing literacy (aligned to Standard 3) • 5.5 renewal credits that are general credits that align with the NC Professional Teaching Standards)

  2. Note the following changes: • Literacy is now required for K-12 teachers • No CEUs will be awarded for teaching experience. • Independent study no longer qualifies for CEUs. • School Administrators must now earn 7.5 credits during each renewal cycle, 3 of which must align with the expectation of the NC School Executive Standards 2, 4, and 5 focused on the school executive’s role as instructional, human resources, and managerial leader.
