  2. eChem Project Update • Chem W1A was developed for delivery in Summer Session 2011 by Mark Kubinec. • Pilot course was successfully delivered to 55 students. • $3,000 was brought in through Summer Session 2011 income. • UC Systemwide On-line Instruction: • College’s eChem project is one of 26 courses systemwide selected by UCOP for implementation in ongoing UC On-line Education Project. • UC On-line Education Project is expected to provide a $45,000 grant this year for further eChem course development.

  3. Chem W1A Course Evaluations • Overall rating of course: • Moderate to highly effective: 88.2% (15) • Less effective to not at all effective: 11.8% (2) • 88.2% (15) would recommend this course • 100% (16) would recommend this instructor Student Feedback: “Structure of online lectures was really great - impressive actually. The design and run times of lectures were ideal for studying online.” “Prof. Kubinec's style always maintained my interest and I loved Lonnie's labs. If I had only had the textbook to read, I would not have learned as much as I did in the course.”

  4. eChem 1 Funding Model & Projections • Funding model for on-line delivery in summer session is not properly structured to provide strong incentive to college for further delivery. • Other colleges and schools are noticing this problem with on-line model. • Discussions are planned with Summer Session and EVCP to resolve this problem since it will inhibit use of on-line education to enhance campus revenues.
