  2. Connectivity in Metro Nashville Public Schools • 2 Gigabit Pipe coming into the district – we use 800 mb on any given instructional day • Internal infrastructure is 100 mb with capacity to 1 gig

  3. Curriculum and Instruction • Common Core • eBooks, personal devices for every student, rich digital media content, project based learning, gaming technologies, interactive technologies • Online Assessments (beginning 2014-2015) • 81,000 students testing in a two week window • 12,000 students testing on any given day during the test window • Online assessments given four – six times per year (formative and summative) • Blended Learning • Access to online content and lessons 24/7 • Personalized Learning • Instructional and Learning Management Systems accessible by every student and their parent every day with updates on student progression through content and skill mastery • Virtual Schooling • Access to online courses 24/7 • Limitless Libraries (school district partnership with Public Library) • Access to Public Library online catalog to reserve books or download eBooks or videos

  4. Impact on Connectivity • When online assessments occur, all Internet traffic must be STOPPED, to ensure connectivity is not dropped for testing environment • Challenge of not having fiber access to all schools due to different providers/infrastructure • MNPS covers 400 square miles and utilizes three different local providers in Nashville but TN rural counties may only have access to T-1 through their local provider • Gigabit infrastructure to anchor institutions to ensure access to content and instruction 24/7 • Connectivity must extend beyond the school to allhomes in order for students to have appropriate access
