  2. The Pure Zener Chain. • We propose a single leg chain of seven zener diodes that will apply fixed GEM and transfer gap voltages up until apocalyptic failure. • The suggestion is to set these at 450 V as shown in the diagram on the right. • At this level, we would set the power supply to 3550 V, which would mean a current through the chain of 181 uA (OK with present power supply). • Any GEM would then lose full voltage under the condition that its own current was more than 181 uA. • This condition would happen at 8.33 shorted strips. NOTE: Since the V is negative, the diodes actually are inserted the other way around.

  3. How to wire this option Disconnect these • Each “resistor card” has pins on the bottom (connects to mother board) and SOCKETS on top (jumpers). • Jumpers allow the chain to continue from one to the next until ground is reached. HV Jumpers NOTE: Since the V is negative, the diodes actually are inserted the other way around.

  4. “Real” diode orientation… Disconnect these • Each “resistor card” has pins on the bottom (connects to mother board) and SOCKETS on top (jumpers). • Jumpers allow the chain to continue from one to the next until ground is reached. HV Jumpers
