  10. What are the Foundation elements? • Staff • Developed by Guido D’Arezzo • It is based upon the human hand • Five lines represent the fingers and thumb • Tones are identified based upon their placement upon the staff – a line or space http://www.drhodges.wikispaces.com

  13. What are the basic structure elements of music? • Melody • A succession of tones perceived as a unit. Unlike a sentence requiring a subject, verb, and predicate, a melody does not have any specific requirements. http://www.drhodges.wikispaces.com

  14. What are the basic structure elements of music? • Rhythm • The combination of long and/or short sounds. • Rhythm comes from speech – the way we put vocal sounds together to form words. • We have a regional dialect if we emphasize certain syllables. http://www.drhodges.wikispaces.com
