  2. Background • During 2001 we have been totally revising our two Masters courses. The flexible structure, enables courses to be introduced ‘easily’ and ‘rapidly’ updated i.e., flexible and adaptable to change. This process has now been completed. • The department has a respectable ‘4’ research rating in the recent UK University wide research assessment, which underpins our MSc courses. The MSc’s • MSc Networks Systems Engineering (note title change) • MSc Communications Engineering & Signal Processing • Structure: Autumn 12 Week Term 60 Credits (e.g., 6 *10 credits modules) Includes: Personal & Professional Skills module Christmas Spring 12 Week Term 60 Credits (e.g., 2* 10 & 2 *20 credits modules) Includes: Research & Project Skills module Easter (Exams ‘straight’ after Easter) Summer Project 60 credits Project assessment by thesis, talk & research paper MSc Courses 2002 5/11/02

The MRes Structure: Autumn 12 Week Term 60 Credits (e.g., 6 *10 credits modules) Includes: Personal & Professional Skills module Christmas Spring 12 Week Term 110 Credit Project taken in the work place Includes: 10 credit Research & Project Skills module Easter (Any exams ‘straight’ after Easter) Summer Project continued Project assessment by thesis, viva, talk & research paper MSc Courses 2002 5/11/02

  8. Issues • Numbers going through the roof. Acceptances(2000,’01,’02): 22,33,127 i.e., expecting double number of students this year. A waiting list is now in place. • Faculty Graduate School. Has its own lectures/ activities & cross disciplinary opportunities. • Proposed University wide Graduate School with specific facilities for postgrads. MSc Courses 2002 5/11/02

  10. INC 2000: Student Poster Session For the last three years NSE students have attended and presented posters at international conferences hosted by the department, at the University of Plymouth MSc Courses 2002 5/11/02

  11. Visiting Speakers The department has a programme of research talks and visiting speakers, which the MSc students attend. MSc Courses 2002 5/11/02
