3. The History of Galvanic Current The “galvanic current” used today for cosmetic and health benefits is named after the Italian scientist, Luigi Galvani who, in 1791, discovered that the body conducts electric currents.

4. What Is a Galvanic Treatment? For several decades, spa and salon professionals have used gentle galvanic currents in customisedtreatments to refresh and energisethe skin. These treatments require a trained esthetician who uses a large machine with a roller that provides a gentle massaging action to help focus cellular energy and enhance circulation to improve skin clarity and complexion.

5. - + - + - + + - How Does a Galvanic Treatment Work? Galvanic treatments use the basic principles that like charges repel each other and opposites attract—similar to magnetic poles. Products are formulated to contain key ingredients which carry a positive or negative charge. The instrument is also set to have the same charge as key ingredients in the product. The repelling of like charges “pushes” or facilitates the delivery of key ingredients to the skin. With the careful application of positive and negative galvanic currents to the skin, an esthetician is able to perform a variety of beneficial skin treatments.

6. Direct (Galvanic) Currents Direct (galvanic) currents can assist in the delivery of like charged key ingredients to the skin by improving osmotic flow.  One type of direct current is a pulsating galvanic current which may be better suited for areas found on the body.

Pulsating Galvanic Currents While a constant galvanic current is one that has a steady flow—it does not waver or vary in amplitude*—a pulsating galvanic current is one type of direct current (DC) that varies between two different, pre-established levels. * A pulsating galvanic current is NOT an alternating current (AC). Within alternating currents, the polarity fluctuates between positive and negative poles.

19. Caution: The ageLOC Galvanic Body Spa instrument is only for use on healthy skin. Do not use if you have open sores or wounds, skin inflammation, allergies to metal, or problematic or overly sensitive skin. Check with your physician before using if you are pregnant, have a pacemaker or similar device, are epileptic, or have a metal implant, or in case of illness. The ageLOC Galvanic Body Spa instrument is not a body massager. The instrument should gently glide over the skin. There is no need to apply pressure to get maximum benefits.
