  2. Squid Common Name: Mollusks Clams Snail Slug

  3. Bilateral Symmetry when cut in ½ • Coelomate Skin Muscle Internal Organ Gut Membrane

  4. Foot~ movement • Statocysts~ balance • Mucus secretion~ aid movement Foot

  5. Herbivores • mainly algae • Radulae • tounges w/ sharp teeth • One way digestive tract

  6. Gas Exchange Process • Some Mollusks have… gills which have filaments making it so water enters near the bottom, exits from the top • Other mollusks have… a thin membrane that lines the mantle cavity, which works like a primitive lung

  7. Defense: • Strong shells • Hide in shells

  8. Excretion/WaterBalance • collect body fluids filled with waste • Cilia push fluids into nephridia (tiny tube like structures) • nephridia recover sugars and salts from fluids • Remaining fluids exit body through pores

  9. Mollusks can be… • Male • Female • Both Egg Fertilization is… • External for aquatic • Internal for terrestrial Eggs Trochophore
