  1. CWU mock YOUTH CONFERENCE 2009 MOTIONS Motion 1 This conference deplores and rejects all forms of discrimination and victimization and therefore takes a zero tolerance approach to the current persecution of bankers and instructs the executive to organize a Back the Bankers Solidarity Rally. Youth Advisory Committee

  2. CWU mock YOUTH CONFERENCE 2009   Conference instructs the incoming Youth Advisory Committee to actively promote pensions. They can do this on the website, in literature and courses and via any other means at their disposal. We would also instruct the YAC to lobby the union to make all pension schemes opt-out so that members are automatically entered into the pension upon commencement of employment. This should be done by the next CWU annual conference. Debt Destroyers Motion2

  3. CWU mock YOUTH CONFERENCE 2009   Motion 3 Conference resolves that education is the principle weapon in how we turn young people away from knife crime. Therefore we instruct the YAC to use its links with the NEC to ensure the CWU embarks on a campaign to ensure the anti-knife crime initiatives as part of the National Curriculum. Blade Beaters

  4. CWU mock YOUTH CONFERENCE 2009   Motion 4 Conference recognizes the importance of all parts of the CWU organizing to campaign against the rise of the far right. Therefore conference resolves that every regional youth committee will hold an event to galvanize opinion – this could include, but not limited to, music/sports events. UAF

  5. CWU mock YOUTH CONFERENCE 2009   Emergency Motion

  6. CWU mock YOUTH CONFERENCE 2009   This conference notes that domestic fuel bills are expected to rise significantly over the coming years. Conference is concerned that young workers, already struggling on low wages to find affordable accommodation may be unable to afford the expected increase in fuel bills and may be forced into an unacceptable choice between ‘eat or heat’. Conference believes too little has so far been done to address our over-reliance on dwindling supplies of natural oil and gas. Conference notes the massive profits made by energy suppliers in recent years, against a back drop of impending and unaffordable price rises for consumers and under-investment in developing alternative sources of energy. Conference calls upon the CWU to use every means at its disposal to lobby government to levy a windfall tax on energy suppliers, the proceeds of which to be used to invest in the development of alternative, sustainable sources of energy. Climate Solidarity Branch Motion 5

  7. CWU mock YOUTH CONFERENCE 2009   Motion 6 This conference believes the best way for citizens to protect themselves against knife crime is to have deregulated gun control. Conference therefore instructs the executive to campaign to secure a license for Tesco Supermarket giant to sell guns in the UK .Youth Advisory Committee

  8. CWU mock YOUTH CONFERENCE 2009   Motion 7 Conference instructs the incoming Youth Advisory Committee to have a finance section on the youth website. This should also promote the CWU credit union. We need to help educate our young members about finance and best practices. This should be done by Christmas. Debt Destroyers

  9. CWU mock YOUTH CONFERENCE 2009   Motion 8 This conference instructs the YAC to liaise with the relevant NEC bodies to campaign with other unions to put pressure on central government to offer a standardized and corporate mental health service across the UK. It is only through recognition of the link between mental health and knife crime that this position will be able to be tackled at the source. N.E.W.S. Branch

  10. CWU mock YOUTH CONFERENCE 2009   Conference agrees that there is no compelling evidence for the notion of man-made climate change. Rather it is a capitalist marketing campaign designed to raise money from redundant new technology such as energy efficient lightbulbs. Further this represents a real threat to trade union members working in the sports car industry. Conference resolves not to be taken by this propaganda. Youth Advisory Committee Motion 9

  11. CWU mock YOUTH CONFERENCE 2009  Conference believes the Climate Solidarity initiative is a great opportunity to recruit, organize and campaign in an innovative and effective way that will bring benefits to both the CWU and the communities in which our members live. Conference therefore agrees that the NEC will match the funding that has already been allocated by government to support our involvement, in order to make the initiative as effective as possible. Climate Solidarity Branch Motion 10

  12. CWU mock YOUTH CONFERENCE 2009   Motion 11 Conference calls on the YAC to campaign for all members to use their vote in the upcoming general election. This should include, but is not limited to, a mail/email campaign. UAF

  13. CWU mock YOUTH CONFERENCE 2009   Motion 12 Conference agrees that we need to recognize the heroic efforts of Lord Mandelson to reform the postal industry. Therefore this conference agrees to bestow lifelong honorary membership on this courageous defender of the postal industry. Youth Advisory Committee
