    1. Hardeman County Reserve Grant Presentation 2007-2008

    2. Agriculture/Drafting Programs Agriculture Program – Barry Rinehart – Program of Study is Agriculture Mechanics/Engineering Drafting Program – Zeke Craft – Program of Study is Drafting/Engineering Both programs are located at Middleton High School and both teachers spend 100% of their time in their program area

    3. Progress Toward Goals Both programs have females enrolled in their programs to address our need for more non-traditional participation. Both programs have or are working toward articulation agreements with postsecondary partners. Both programs meet federal benchmarks for skill attainment for students.

    4. Progress Toward Goals Dual credit/enrollment opportunities are being worked on with Jackson State Community College. In the summer of 2009 we will be ready to start our intern program with ThyssenKrupp for CAD operators. Agriculture program articulates with Jackson State Community College and then UT Martin

    5. Modifications to Goals No modifications to our goals were necessary. We modified our budget for the agriculture program because we moved away from a horticulture program of study to an agriculture mechanics/engineering program of study.

    6. Funds Spent as Specified Amendments to the budget had to be made to accommodate the change in the program of study for agriculture. Drafting saw no significant changes other than some costs were more than originally budgeted. More local funds were utilized than budgeted for salary and benefits and some supplies.

    7. Timeframe The timeframe was reasonable. Challenge we ran into was that the agriculture and carpentry programs utilized the same lab. This led to us purchasing almost all of the agriculture equipment, tools, etc… at the end of the 2007-08 school year.

    8. Successes Intern opportunities for drafting students at ThyssenKrupp Elevators Dual credit opportunities for drafting students through Jackson State Community College and Tennessee Technology Center @ Whiteville. Distance/Online learning opportunities for both programs. Articulation with Jackson State and UT Martin for Agriculture program

    9. Challenges Agriculture and Carpentry programs utilizing the same laboratory. Programs were added at such a late date that advertising the programs to students was impossible and scheduling students into the programs was difficult. We are still working through scheduling challenges for the 2008-09 school year.

    10. What else was needed? Additional funds for a CNC mill or rapid prototyping machine for the drafting/engineering program. Better facility that would have allowed carpentry and agriculture to have separate labs. Great Grant Great Initial Results
