  1. Omnipotent & Supreme

  2. Let’s attempt to DEFINE & DEFEND these attributes…

  3. omniPOTENT Almighty Invincible Having all power Limitless authority Unlimited universal power Infinite strength & force

  4. SUPREME The highest The greatest Above all in worth & might The most glorious The first and the ultimate The utmost in status

  5. Omnipotent

  6. First, when we say that God is Omnipotent we mean that: God has allpower: Possessing unlimited and infinite, power, strength and force.

  7. “…by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-- all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”Colossians 1:16-17

  8. Since He has at His command all the power in the universe, the Lord God omnipotent can do anything as easily as anything else. All His acts are done without effort. He expends no energy that must be replenished. A.W Tozer

  9. His self-sufficiency makes it unnecessary for Him to look outside of Himself for a renewal of strength. All the power required to do all that He wills to do lies in undiminished fullness in His own infinite being. A.W Tozer

  10. Second, when we say that God is Omnipotent we mean that: God has all actualability: He has the unlimited, infinite, sovereign abilityto use that power freely, fully and instantly, without constraint to enforce however and whenever he wants.

  11. “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.”Job 42:2

  12. Third, when we say that God is Omnipotent we mean that: God has all authoritarian power: He has the unlimited, infinite, sovereign authorityto use that power freely, fully and instantly, without consent, permission our outer constraint from anything or anyone else.

  13. God never wishes that he could do something but he simply can’t. There is never a desire which God does not have the power to fulfill. If he chooses to pass on that power option it is because he has something greater in mind.

  14. God’s power is like Himself: infinite, eternal, incomprehensible; it can neither be checked, restrained, nor frustrated by the creature..S. Charnock

  15. The power of God is that ability and strength whereby He can bring to pass whatsoever He pleases, whatsoever His infinite wisdom may direct, and whatsoever the infinite purity of His will may resolve. . . S. Charnock

  16. “…far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things…”Ephesians 1:21-22

  17. Fourth, when we say that God is Omnipotent we mean that: God has all collective power: He has unlimited power and strength which is instantly, effortlessly and infinitely beyond the collective sum of all other beings and entities from the sum of all time at full collective strength.

  18. “You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you.”2 Chronicles 20:6

  19. God’spower The collective sum of the power of everything else, ever.

  20. Finally, when we say that God is Omnipotent we also mean: All power, strength & ability, whether actual or possible, whether found in spirit beings, nature or humanity and their inventions… have received allof their abilityfrom God.

  21. God has power. Since God is also infinite, whatever He has must be without limit; therefore God has limitless power, He is omnipotent. We see further that God the self-existent Creator is the source of all the power there is, and since a source must be at least equal to anything that emanates from it, God is of necessity equal to all the power there is…Aw Tozer

  22. And God is free to alter, limit or revoke any ability or any power that he has given to any one at any time as he sees fit for his purposes.

  23. “…all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and he does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?”Daniel 4:35

  24. Sovereignty and omnipotence must go together. One cannot exist without the other. To reign, God must have power, and to reign sovereignly, He must have all power. And that is what omnipotent means, having all power. Aw Tozer

  25. Supreme

  26. When we think of the word supreme we may define it very similarly to omnipotence…

  27. But for our study, and our time today, we should think of supreme along the lines of worth, value, majesty and glory.

  28. Worth, Value, Majesty and Glory

  29. First, when we say that God is Supreme we mean that: God doeshave supreme worth. His majesty, his esteem, his value and his glory are immeasurable.

  30. His majesty, his esteem, his value and his glory is not a subjective opinion…it is a universal, objective, reality…

  31. It is the greatest objective reality in the all the universe and it is the greatest reality with which we must stand before.

  32. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the gloryand the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O LORD, and You exaltYourself as head over all.1 Chronicles 29:11

  33. Second, when we say that God is Supreme we mean that: God is duesupreme worth-ship. The majesty, the esteem, the value and the glory he is due (owed) is immeasurable.

  34. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.Psalm 29:2

  35. Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere Him.Psalm 33:8

  36. Third, when we say that God is Supreme we mean that: God’s worthis paramount. The majesty, the value and the glory of God is more than the sum total of anything and everything else which is valuable and majestic.

  37. He will bring about at the proper time--He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.1 Timothy 6:15-16

  38. The beauty, the honor and the glory of God is more than the sum total of anything and everything else which is beautiful and honorable.

  39. Also, anything and everything else which is worthy, or valuable or beautiful or honorable…

  40. …is so because (1) God gave it its very beauty and honor and (2) that beauty and honor is a reflection of beauty and honor found already in the author; God.

  41. Fourth, when we say that God is Supreme we mean that: WhateverGod is… he is infinitely supreme in ‘that’. Whatever attribute God poses he has ‘that’ to the full and infinite degree of completion and perfection.

  42. Fifth, when we say that God is Supreme we mean that: Whatever God is… is the necessarystandard. Whatever God requires or demands, he becomes the necessary standard of that demand by his very naturealone.

  43. If the requirement is love, or holiness, or showing mercy… God, being supreme, means that he is the highest and full display and standard of what love, holiness & mercy are.

  44. For I am Yahweh your God, so you must consecrate yourselves and be holy because I am holy. You must not defile yourselves by any swarming creature that crawls on the ground. For I am Yahweh, who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your God, so you must be holy because I am holy.Leviticus 11:44-45

  45. Sixth, when we say that God is Supreme we mean that: The dutyof every created being then would be to give (ascribe) to the Lord the honor and the glory duehis name and to live in accordance with the supreme standard displayedin his very nature.

  46. Ascribe to the LORD the glorydue his name; bring an offering and come into his courts. Worship the LORD in the splendorofhisholiness; tremble before him, all the earth.Psalm 96:8

  47. How should the fact that God is impact our lives? Omnipotent & Supreme

  48. #1 As a believer, the omnipotence of God should build my faith…knowing that I can have fullconfidence in God’s ability to guarantee the outcome.

  49. …with respect to the promise of God, he (Abraham) did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.” Romans 4:20-21

  50. #2 As a believer, the omnipotence of God should limit my fear…knowing that God is in full control of all the events in all of human history.
