  3. Widescreen Presentation INTRODUCTION • During the 1990s, Indian healthcare grew annual rate of 16%. • Today the total value of the sector is more than $34 billion or roughly 6% of GDP • By 2012, India’s healthcare sector is projected to grow to nearly $40 billion

CONTRIBUTION TO ECONOMY Widescreen Advantages • India ranked 12th among 184 countries in terms of travel & tourism‘s total contribution to GDP in 2012 -13 • In India, the sector’s direct contribution to GDP is expected to grow at 7.8 per cent per annum during 2013–2023 vis-à-vis the world average of 4.2 per cent • The travel & tourism sector in India is estimated to create 78 jobs per USD18,366 of investment compared to 45 in the manufacturing sector • Travel & tourism’s contribution to capital investment is projected to grow at 6.5 per cent per annum during 2013–2023, above the global average of 5.0 per cent

CONTRIBUTION TO ECONOMY • One driver of growth in the healthcare sector is India’s booming population, currently 1.1 billion and increasing at a 2% annual rate. • By2030, India is expected to surpass China as the world’s most populous nation. By 2050, the population is projected to reach 1.6 billion.

EVOLUTION Creating 16:9 Presentations PRE 1990 • Setting up of the India Tourism Development Corporation in 1966 to promote India as a tourist destination and the Tourism Finance Corporation in 1989 to finance tourism projects • National tourism policy announced in 1982 • The government formulated a national comprehensive plan to promote tourism in 1988 POST 1990 • Various states declare tourism as an industry • government encourages public private partnerships to boost tourism • Government policies to promote hotels • In 1992, a National Action Plan was prepared and in 1996 the National Strategy for Promotion of Tourism was drafted • In 1997 new policy on tourism drafted

TRENDS INHOSPITALITY SECTOR Per capita health expenditure increases at a fast pace • Per capita healthcare expenditure increased at a CAGR of 10.3 per cent during 2008–11 to USD57.9; the figure is set to touch USD88.7 by 2015 • This is due to rising incomes, easier access to high-quality healthcare facilities and greater awareness of personal health and hygiene .Greater penetration of health insurance aided the rise in healthcare spending, a trend likely to intensify in the coming decade

  20. Medical tourism is the practice of a patient "outsourcing" healthcare services to an area outside of his/her home country. Medical Tourism also known as medical travel ,health tourismor global healthcareis a term initially coined bytravel agencies and mass media to describe the rapidly growing practice of travelling across international border to obtain health care.

  21. SCOPE: Such Services include complex specialized surgeries such as Joint Replacement, (Knee/Hip), Cardiac Surgery,Dental Surgery & Cosmetic Surgery, and Ayurvedic treatment. However every type of health care including psychiatry, alternative treatment, convarescent care & services are available.
