  1. What is better? Smart Controller or Central Irrigation control? On a particular Sunday in July a little probability of rain turns into little hour long rainfall on Portland. But only few irrigation controllers have adjusted to that night’s rainfall in that area. Instead it do not show the rain in night and the only way to know is to someone’s on site visit to shut off or reduce the irrigation schedule. But that kind of thing not often happens and in Sundays it reduces to zero. And if you talk about the new smart controller which adjusts the irrigation run time without any on site visit by receiving the weather data then they do adjust properly but how can you be sure of?

  2. Is there any problem with weather data it received? Is the recording of the weather data is working properly? Is the mode of the smart controller to incorporate weather data is right or it has the set to stand without knowing? The truth is it is hard to know the smart controller for some reasons. The first thing is the lack of communication option to know the smart controller state other than to spend lot of money in its upgrade. And the other is lack any way to retrieve the within stored data to review.

  3. Looking at the Sunday incident it is a clear example that a controller need to accessible through various mediums such as Wi-Fi, cellular etc which is an effective way for irrigation management. Using different mediums like any website the web based irrigation controller is capable of checking whether the irrigation is properly functional or it is shut down due to rainfall. Because of this the owner of the property can reduce wasting water which helps lowering water bills and also the irrigation manager can have some peace of mind. It is the same for any kind of weather and the checking of weather data recorded, transmitted and watered can be done smoothly by the irrigation manager without any on site visitation to the controller.

  4. Smart controller compared to the traditional controller might seem a good option, but it cannot do anything of the above mentions requirements. The incomplete in their requirements includes lacking in way to retrieve data, producing any kind of reports, also lack in communication links, making correction in the programming and lack in the checking of irrigation controller if it’s receiving electrical power and if the irrigation schedule is running properly or not. On the other hand if you are using central control irrigation system then all of the above mentioned management benefits can be obtained.
