  4. Words to watch! Some words look like they may be conjunctions but are in fact adverbs. e.g. jedoch - however deshalb - therefore / that’s why leider - unfortunately also - so außerdem - apart from that/moreover These behave like any expression of time. • GesternAbend war Lisa sehrmüde, deshalbistsiefrüh ins Bettgegangen. • Jedoch hat sieeinbisschengelesen. • Leiderkannsieheutenichtausgehen, alsogeheichallein ins Kino.

  5. Sub-ordinating conjunctions For a full list, look in your grammar booklets, page 26 Common ones: weil, dass, wenn, obwohl, damit, wann, wo, wie, warum, welche, da, damit These conjunctions send the main verb in the clause to the end of the clause

  6. Sub-ordinating conjunctions cont.. e.g. Ich lese viel, so dassichmichnichtlangweile. Esärgertmich, wennwirunsstreiten. Obwohlwirunsstreiten, sindwirbesteFreunde! When you start the whole sentence with a sub-ordinating conjunction you get VERB, VERB pattern in the middle of the sentence. THIS IS IMPORTANT!
