  3. Questionnaire on JVS methodology • Eurostat compiled metadata information for the JVS Report to the EP and the Council • The coefficient of variation, sample size, the response rates of the JVS surveys for the reference quarters in 2014 included • Information gathered from the JVS quality reports and replies of the NSIs to the questionnaire

  4. Coefficient of variation • Available for all Member States except UK and EL • CZ and LU derive JVS data from administrative sources • CV below 10% for all the quarters in 2014, except for: BG, CY, FI, FR, as well as BE, ES (both over 10% only for 2014Q1), IE (over 10% for 2014Q4) and LV (over 10% for 2014Q1 and 2014Q4)

  5. Sample size • - Varied from around 1 300 units surveyed in MT and 3 000 in CY to around 75 000 in DE (in the larger survey conducted every fourth quarter) and 100 000 in PL • - Clear negative relationship between the sample size and the coefficient of variation

  6. Coefficient of variation as a function of the sample size (1/√n)

  7. Response rate • Above 50% in all cases except DE (17% for the survey conducted in the fourth quarter) and HR (42%) • The highest rate in Romania: 99%

  8. Questionnaire on back series and revision policies • LAMAS in January 2016 took note of Eurostat's request for receiving full time series each quarter • Agreed that NSIs would be surveyed on this proposal as well as on their data revision policies • As of 24 June 2016, all EU Member States, except HR, EL and NL had replied to the questionnaire

  9. Back series • Countries asked to transmit each quarter NSA and SA data back to reference quarter 2010Q1 at least • This is not yet the case for: CZ, FI, EL, IE, NL, SE and NO

  10. Revision policies • Revision policies in place for: BE, BG, DK, DE, IE, ES, FR, IT, LV, LT, HU, NL, RO, SI, FI, UK and CH • CY and HU consider introducing a revision policy in the future

  11. Revision policies • 5 countries revise raw JVS data with a quarterly frequency whereas 4 have an annual revision policy • 16 countries revise SA data with a quarterly frequency whereas 4 have an annual revision policy

  12. Revision policies • Member States are invited to adopt a common revision policy for SA data, as follows: - Seasonal factors to be revised every quarter, impacting the full series backwards - Seasonal adjustment models to be revised once per year only, for the transmission of reference quarter Q1 due in June

  13. LAMAS delegates are invited: • - To take note of the results of the questionnaire on JVS methodology • - As regards UK, EL and IE: to transmit the coefficient of variations for the total number of vacancies to Eurostat • - As regards LU and CZ: to provide information on the quality checks performed on the administrative data used for JVS purposes • - As regards countries with a coefficient of variation above 10% OR with a response rate below 50%: to comment on the accuracy of JVS data and on possible improvements in the future

  14. LAMAS delegates are invited: • - To take note of the results of the questionnaire on national revision policies for JVS • - As regards CZ, FI, EL, IE, NL, SE and NO: to consider sending full back series every quarter, back to 2010Q1 at least • - To take note of the proposal for harmonized revision policies in the field of seasonally adjusted data
