  1. PowerLogic® ION8600 Monitor service entrances and substations

  2. Overview • Monitor network interties, service entrances and substations • Ideal for independent power producers and co-generation applications • Accurately measures energy bi-directionally, in both generation and stand-by modes • Gives utilities the tools to manage complex energy supply contracts • Includes commitments to power quality • Integrate with energy management and SCADA systems

  3. Revenue metering • ION8600 meters meet stringent IEC and ANSI revenue metering standards on true RMS voltage, current, and power • ANSI C12.20 0.2, Class 2, 10, & 20 • IEC 62053-22 Class 0.2S • The meters perform power quality and compliance monitoring in accordance with CBEMA/ITIC, IEEE 519 – 1992, and IEEE 1159 and monitor flicker to IEC 61000-4-15, and harmonics to IEC 61000-4-7 • Multi-user, multi-level security protects the ION8600 meter, allowing you to control and customize access for up to 16 users

  4. Modularity and communications • ION8600 meters use patented ION® technology, giving meters a modular, flexible architecture that allows for extensive user programmability • Meters address complex monitoring and control applications, and avoid obsolescence by adapting to changing needs • The ION8600 offers complete communications: fiber, Ethernet, serial, and modem • Gateway functionality simplifies communications architecture and reduces leased line or connection costs • Ports communicate with a variety of protocols (ION, DNP 3.0, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, MV-90) • Meters have the capability to dial out when memory is near full, and to push data through SMTP (email)

  7. Features

  8. Applications Use the ION8600 to: • Perform revenue metering • Monitor both co-generation and IPP • Perform energy pulsing and totalization • Monitor compliance with international standards • Analyze power quality • Control demand and power factor • Performing load curtailment • Monitor and control your equipment • Correct instrument transformers

  9. Applications • Revenue metering • Revenue approved, bi-directional measurements; monitors four quadrants • Monitor compliance with energy supply contracts • Energy suppliers: offer customized rates, flexible billing, transformer/line loss compensation, and web-based reporting • Energy consumers: audit power requirements and confirm bills • Highest revenue metering accuracy • Advanced security for 16 different users – individual passwords and rights

  10. Applications • Co-generation and IPP monitoring • Monitors bi-directional flow for both generation and stand-by modes • Energy pulsing and totalization • Use digital I/O for KYZ pulsing, end-of-interval and totalization • Compliance monitoring • Monitor compliance with international flicker and harmonics standards, IEC 61000-4-7/ 4-15

  11. Applications • Power quality analysis • Detects, records, and communicates information – nature and sequence of power quality events • Identify the cause of transients, harmonics, sags and swells • Measure percentage of system uptime in nines • Waveform recording and compliance monitoring • Monitor compliance with international flicker and harmonics standards • Diagnose and benchmark power quality on the grid and at key customer locations – allows utility personnel to make informed decisions • Analyze problems and avoid repeat interruptions

  12. Applications • Demand and power factor control • Avoid penalties – load shedding, scheduling, peak shaving and capacitor bank control • Standard demand calculation methods: block, rolling block, thermal, predicted • Measure on any instantaneous value and record peak and minimum

  13. Applications • Load curtailment • 800 user configurable channels via 50 data recorders (feature set A) • Record energy, demand, voltage, current, power quality, etc. • Implement load curtailment and distributed generation strategies • Modbus Master enables detailed facility monitoring • Identify inefficiencies; develop strategic load shedding applications • Use like an RTU to intelligently poll downstream devices such as relays or other metering products

  14. Applications • Equipment monitoring and control • Record details of equipment status • Use information from several meters to correlate system-wide events and equipment operation • Base maintenance schedules on operating history • Meter all your utilities including gas, steam, water and more

  15. Applications • Instrument transformer correction • Compensate for line loss, and power and instrument transformers • Save money and improve accuracy • Install on the low side of your transformers to compensate for less accurate equipment
