  2. Fast Facts • Community Based Job Training – special initiative in US Dept of Labor • To expand capacity and training in community colleges for high growth fields • $1,416,947 for 3 years – 2007-2009 • Only 1 in 6 proposals were funded! CONFIDENTIAL

Partnerships • Workforce Investment: Required partner; providing another $1,000,000; salaries and equipment; will refer students to us • Health Care: CBH, St. Joe will provide some scholarships • Schools: Dual credit, recruitment • Advisory Committee: Includes reps from all of these CONFIDENTIAL

  5. Purpose • Expand BCTC nursing program at all levels to meet the growing demand for nurses in Kentucky • Increase access to and success in nursing education through additional opportunities and supports (Nursing Student Resource Center) Four major objectives: CONFIDENTIAL

Obj. 1: Increase Nurse Aide training and pathways to PN/RN • Dual enrollment courses at secondary schools • On-site NA classes for incumbent health care workers • ESL/GED classes for trainees who wish to enter NA program • Develop advanced training, specialty learning modules, and apprenticeship program for NA’s CONFIDENTIAL

Obj. 2: Implement a seamless pathway from PN to RN program • Develop web-based curricula for PN to be completed in two semesters • Offer PN courses for dual credit at secondary schools • Develop web-based courses for RN • Provide intensive advising and use of Nursing Student Resource Center to assist students CONFIDENTIAL

  8. Obj. 3: Increase capacity and enrollment in PN and RN programs • Increase class space, lab equipment, and faculty • Increase evening/weekend courses • Add sites for clinicals/internships • Recruit and retain students from under-represented groups CONFIDENTIAL

  9. Obj. 4: Increase retention and completion rates in nursing programs • Increase availability of scholarships - $235,000 per year (2007-2009) • Refer “at risk” students to Nursing Student Resource Center • Provide intensive advising and case management services CONFIDENTIAL
