  2. Goal My goal for the 8th grade project is to build two baseball bats that I would be able to use.

  3. Researching I needed to research the type of bats I wanted. The three main choices: birch, ash and maple.

  4. Researching Cont. Ash- softer wood, wood flexes, flakes Maple- doesn’t flake, doesn’t flex, hard wood Birch- flexes more than maple, more durable than ash

  5. Buying the Wood I bought my wood from http://www.woodbillets.com/. I bought one birch billet and one ash billet. Ash Wood Birch Wood

  6. Researching Needed to find the dimensions for the bats. From www.pennstateind.com, I got the needed diameters for a 32 inch bat.

  8. Planning Measured out bat in increments of 4 inches. Marked each 4 inches with diameter. Me measuring and pointing out increments with diameters.

  9. Next Steps Practice on smaller scale version of bat. Start cutting my bat.

  10. Tools Needed Lathe Chisels Sandpaper Finish Other various tools

  11. Conclusion Only problem is with a lathe. On schedule to finish both bats by May.
