Chapter 7 Day 2. Reflection. At this point in the book, we haven’t had much of Mattie’s perspective (point of view). Do you think Mattie is doing anything wrong thus far in the novel? In other words, do you think Mattie is partly to blame for Ethan cheating on his wife?

  2. Reflection • At this point in the book, we haven’t had much of Mattie’s perspective (point of view). • Do you think Mattie is doing anything wrong thus far in the novel? In other words, do you think Mattie is partly to blame for Ethan cheating on his wife? • Support your answer with evidence from the text. Use a quote and cite the page OR paraphrase events with page numbers. • You have 10 minutes to write. Try to use the whole time.

  3. Think-Pair-Share • Think- about your answers for 1 minute. • Pair- with someone sitting next to you and talk about what you wrote for 2 minutes. • Share- with class when time is up.

  4. Business • Super Pig comments • Classroom Management • How we can be more respectful to each other.

  5. Vocabulary! • We have 3 more vocab words for today! • Write them down as I go over them. • Everything in red should go in your notebook. I will be checking your notes for points!

  6. Pretentious • Pretentious- an adjective that describes someone who thinks they are really important or better than other people especially when it is not deserved. Can also describe something with the same qualities.

  7. “Pretentious” Sentences • The girls were so pretentious that they thought they could commit crimes without consequences. • The pretentious boy thought all the girls should flirt with him, even though he treated them badly. • It was pretentious of Lindsey Lohan to think she could get out of doing jail time just because she is famous.

  8. Aver • Aver- a verb that means to state or say something in a way that leaves no room for denial or refusal.

  9. “Aver” Sentences • Mother averred that my brother would not be kissing on the porch tonight. • If you are going to aver that the world is going to end tonight, be sure of your evidence! • I don’t usually aver things I don’t have all the facts for but I must say this is simply not right.

  10. Disdainfully • Disdainfully- an adverb that describes an action or way in which an action is done to show that something is beneath the person completing the action.

  11. “Disdainfully” Sentences • She swept the crumbs under the rug disdainfullythinking about how she should be dancing at the ball. • He disdainfully rolled his eyes at how he had to always pick up after his co-workers. • “I’m paid well enough to be your maid” she said as she disdainfully threw his laundry in the washing machine.

  12. Think Aloud & Talking to the Text • Get out a blank piece of paper. • Fold it in half “hamburger” way and leave it folded. • Write the page number for the 1st page of chapter 7 in the upper right hand corner. • Wait for further instructions.

  13. Write Your Own Questions • As you read chapter 7, continue “talking to the text” on your sheet of paper. • Then write 3 level 1 questions, 2 level 2 questions, and 1 level 3 question. • If you finish everything early, read your outside reading book.
