  4. Color Models on the Computer • There are several color models that can be used to create colors on the computer • RGB • CMYK • HSB • Specialty Colors

  5. Color on the Screen • The computer monitor creates color by using the three primary colors • Red • Green • Blue

  6. RGB Color • This color model is used for creating graphics for display on the SCREEN for: • Web Pages • Multimedia • Presentations • Etc.

  7. CMYK Color • Cyan • Magenta • Yellow • Black • These colors used for the PRINTING industry.

  8. HSB or HSV • HSB - Hue, Saturation, Brightness • HSV - Hue, Saturation, Value • Hue = refers to the spectral color such as green or blue • Saturation = indicates the purity of the color or strength of the color • Value or Brightness = a colors lightness or darkness - its luminance or value.

  10. Painter • Let’s Open Painter • Go to the File Menu and Select New…

  11. Setting Resolution and Canvas Size • Before you create a new canvas, you need to set the Resolution in PPI or Pixels Per inch • YOU MUST SET RESOLUTION!!! • You need to set the canvas size as well

  12. Be Careful !!! • Make Sure you set the Resolution • AND the Canvas Size in INCHES not PIXELS • You will end up making a VERY Small image – like the size of a stamp!

  13. PPI and Canvas Size • Canvas Size = 800 by 800 pixels • At 72 pixels per inch = canvas is 11 inches by 11 inches • At 150 pixels per inch = canvas is 5.3 inches by 5.3 inches • At 300 pixels per inch = canvas is 2.6 inches by 2.6 inches

  14. PPI and Canvas • 800 / 72 = 11 inches • 800 / 150 = 5.3 inches • 800 / 300 = 2.6 inches • Understand??? • So Always Set the Canvas size using inches and resolution
