What is a color palette? • A color palette is the set of colors used consistently throughout a scene to maintain mood. • Generally, the desired mood sets the color palette that will be dominated by one of four general colors to maintain the mood: • Red • Yellow • Blue • Grey • The rest of the color palette is selected using contrasting and complementary colors from the color wheel.

  5. Mood • Through color palette • Red = passion • Yellow = cheerful • Blue = peaceful • Gray = gloomy • Dark colors identify opponents • Bright colors identify rewards or friends. • Through object shape • Sharp edges = scary • Soft edges = calming

  6. How color is used? • Color is used to portray two different moods. • A lighthearted mood is portrayed in the game on the left. • A darker and more sinister mood is portrayed in the game on the right.

  7. Castle Game • Situation: The Really Sweet Candy Company wants to have its candy appear as tokens in a video game. Your team has been selected to design a prototype game where the player will navigate platforms in a tower and collect candy. If your game prototype is selected, the game will be ported as a PC game, online game, and downloadable application for handheld devices.

  8. Let’s do a little planning! • Take out a sheet of paper and a pencil/pen. • Put your name on your paper.

  9. Answer the following questions: • What color would you choose for the brick wall in your game? • Explain why did you choose this color?

  10. Rubric Scale of 5 – 1 (5 being the highest) Assign point for the following category: • Clarity of answer – Did they answer the questions correctly or…. • Explanation of choice • Add the points ______ out of 10 pts.

  11. Answer the following questions: • After choosing the particular color, would you have chosen another color after talking to your neighbor? • And Why?

  12. Answer the following questions: • After hearing your results, what do you think this chart reveals? • Why did you answer this way?

  13. Let’s design our wall! • The first step is to designed the background for your game. • You will need to create a brick wall for a round tower. • Log into www.g-wonline.com • Choose chapter 4 • Open Activity 4-5 & Activity 4-6 • Open WORD! • Let’s follow the steps.
