  1. Solving Problems Using Ratios

  2. Example 1 • In August, a total of 192cars and were registered. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) reported that for every 5 passenger cars registered, there were 7 trucks registered. Write down the important information from this paragraph.

  3. Questions: • Use a tape diagram to represent the ratio in the question. • In the tape diagram, how many boxes are there in total? • If there are a total of 192 cars, how much must each box in your tape diagram be worth? • How many of each were registered?

  4. Example 2 • Inthe month of September, for every 14 non-commercial vehicles on the road, there were 5 commercial vehicles. • If there were 81more non-commercial vehicles than commercial vehicles, how many of each type of vehicle would be expected? Solve using a tape diagram.

  5. Example 3 • On Sunday nights at The Best Ever Hotel, the ratio of the number of occupied rooms to the number of unoccupied rooms is 2:5. However, on Saturday nights the ratio is 6:1. If the hotel has 432 occupied rooms on Saturday night, how many unoccupied rooms does it have on Sunday night? Solve using a tape diagram.
