The Union Public Service Commission conducts a lot of coveted examinations like Civil Services, Combined Defence Services, etc. One of them is the examination for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy i.e NDA. This is a golden opportunity for the aspirants to get into the armed forces who have studied up to higher secondary level. In the UPSC NDA I Exam a total of 413 vacancies were to be filled through the UPSC NDA examination. The course for selected candidates will begin by 2nd July 2021. The selection process will consist of a written exami- nation and an SSB examination. This article will guide the aspirants through every single detail pertaining to the UPSC NDA examination. Candidates will be given an option to pay the examination fee through offline means also. The UPSC NDA I Examination was supposed to take place on 19th April 2020 but has been postponed until further notice. Out of 413 vacancies, 370 are available for the National Defence Academy and the remaining 43 are for the Naval Academy. The 370 NDA vacancies are further divided as 208 for army 42 for Navy and 120 for Air Force. Total 413 UPSC NDA Eligibility Criteria In order to apply for the UPSC NDA examination, candidates must satisfy all the criteria of eligibility. Only eligible candidates will be allowed to appear for the examination. These criteria are expressed in terms of 3 points namely, nationality, age limit, educational qualification, and others. Each of them is discussed in detail below. A. Nationality The applicant must compulsorily be oa citizen of India, or oa subject of Bhutan, or 3

  4.  U s e f u l L i n k s oa subject of Nepal, or oa Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or oa person of Indian origin who has migrated with the intention of permanently settling in India from oPakistan, Burma, oSri Lanka oKenya, oUganda, othe United Republic of Tanzania, oZambia, oMalawi, oZaire and Ethiopia or oVietnam B. Educational Qualification Candidate must have studied up to 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University C. Age Limit Candidate should have born onot earlier than 02nd January 2002 and onot later than 1st January 2005 D. Other Criteria Candidate must be an unmarried and male candidate. Read more about Eligibility Criteria.. UPSC NDA Selection Process The candidates who wish to join the prestigious National Defence Academy will have to undergo an intricate process of selection. The process can broadly divide into two stages namely written examination and SSB examination. The SSB stands for Service Selection Board. The written exam will consist of two papers i.e. Mathematics and General 4

  5.  U s e f u l L i n k s Ability Test. The SSB examination will also consist of two sections of selection. The stages of selection are qualifying in nature. Hence, the selection process, in a nutshell, will be as follows. 1.Written examination 2.SSB examination (Intelligence and Personality Test) UPSC NDA Exam Pattern The candidates must understand the exam pattern in detail in order to prepare for the UPSC NDA examination. The examination pattern for both the stages of selection has been discussed below. Both the stages of selection will have two sub-stages. Each of them has been clearly explained in simple terms. A. Written examination The papers will consist of objective type questions only. The question paper will consist of two subjects i.e Mathemat- ics and General Ability Test. The General Ability Test will consist of two parts i.e English and General Knowledge. The General Knowledge part will include topics like current affairs, history, general science, etc. This part will further consist of five different sections. Each paper will have a duration of 2.5 hours. The maximum marks will be 300 and 600 respectively. To summarise, the exam pattern for the written examination will be as given below in the table. SSB examination (Intelligence and Personality Test) The SSB exam will further consist of two stages,i.e. Stage I and Stage II. In this stage, overall personality of the candi- date is judged. This is done by three people i.e The Interviewing Officer (IO), Group Testing Officer (GTO) and the Psychologist. The tests taken in the SSB are taken to figure out the presence/absence of Officer Like Qualities and candidates' trainability. The two stages of SSB Examination are as follows. 1.Stage I: Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests are Picture Perception * Description Test (PP&DT). The candi- dates will be shortlisted based on a combination of performance in the OIR Test and PP&DT. 2.Stage II: Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests and the Conference 5

Application Fee The candidates belonging to the SC/ST category will not have to pay any examination fee. The fees for other candi- dates will be Rs. 100/- The fee can be paid either by depositing the money in any branch of SBI by cash or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India or by using any Visa/MasterCard/Rupay Credit/Debit Card.
