Write down whether you agree or disagree with the following statements. Explain your reasoning. (Be prepared to defend your choices!) Into the Wild Anticipation Guide 1. There is really no wilderness left in America. 2. Having close human relationships in one’s life is essential to one’s happiness. 3. One cannot last without the conveniences of civilization. 4. One can create another version of one’s self and live that life forever. 5. The attraction of high risk activities causes certain people to make life threatening decisions.

Into the Wild Bellringer # 212-8-11 • Why is Jon Krakauer fascinated with the story of Chris McCandless? • Out of the recent writers we have read, which one do you think Chris McCandless probably liked? Why? • This book is an example of a man who tries to live a Transcendentalist lifestyle. Based on what you know so far, what do you think makes Chris McCandless a Transcendentalist? Think back to the characteristics of Transcendentalism. Today’s Objective: We can read and understand Into the Wild.
