  1. Common Myths Surrounding International Schools in Pune Following the search for the best school for your child, the below-mentioned points are important to be considered to understand the differences between a national and international school in Pune: Highly regarded in the world today, international schools are primarily English speaking located in most of the countries, particularly in the non-English speaking countries, and currently, give education to 3.6 million students. To gain the maximum from an international school, it is important to be aware of the overall atmosphere of the school along with the curriculum being imparted. Myths about the international school are many with respect to the concern manifesting in terms of a foggy image of the international schools along with rising confusions due to opinions of various people and discussions. It is the choice of school and curriculum that has a big influence in the life of the child. It is the choice that can only be made when one is fully aware of the facts about different educational approaches. Here’s a quick myth buster: 1.All International Schools offer the Same Curriculum Parents who have researched about the international school by browsing online would understand that this is not true. Not all international schools offer the same curriculum. The two prominent curricula for international schools in India are - International Baccalaureate (IB) and the second is the Cambridge Curriculum. It is the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Examinations) curriculum for grades 9 and 10 where the assessment is carried out by the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) body. The international schools offer a curriculum that is directly followed by the parent countries like the English National Curriculum of the UK or American boards of the US. 2.International Schools Are for Foreigners and NRIs Given the proliferation of international schools, the biggest myth surrounding these schools is slowly diminishing. 3.International Schools Are Opted by Students Aspiring to Go Abroad for higher education Many people aspire of going abroad or sending their children to get their higher education in the reputed universities of Europe and America. Children who have studied in international schools are far more equipped to handle the international studies. The children from international schools are pretty

  2. much aware of the innate qualities like independent thinking, 360-degree thinking, time management as well as the importance of delivering as per commitments. 4.Academics in Indian boards are tougher than International Schools The myth is not true in the real sense as the international curriculum is quite comprehensive like other board curricula. The international syllabus also delves deeper into the respective subjects like the Indian boards, what differentiates them is the approach which one learns for the subject. Practical thinking, facing the exams, problem-solving skills, etc. all are given equal emphasis. 5.There are no textbooks in International Schools. They keep doing projects. This myth proves to be false as the textbooks which are prescribed in the international schools are also based on the curriculum being followed. While the emphasis is more on the projects which take care of the practical aspects, writing essays, presentations, exhibitions, games, etc. the strong belief that these activities create more room for creativity is the learning process. 6.Students in International Schools cannot compete in Competitive Exams Not true as the myth arises from the perceived notion that the syllabi of international school are quite shallow and lack the depth. We did a myth-busting session earlier and the students of international schools are much more prepared to crack these subjects like reasoning, problem-solving, etc. they have a slight edge on the parameters as compared to other students. The slightly serious argument mentions that cracking the competitive exam alone does not guarantee the career of one’s choice. The real success of a career happens as the students identify themselves in the line of interest and also develop their skill-set, specifically in their interest area. 7.Exams in International Schools do not give results on time to join colleges or university While this is not completely true, it has become a common myth. The Cambridge curriculum has the exam in March with the results declared in the same month as similar to Indian boards CBSE and ICSE. the results of the IB curriculum have been declared at a later stage and pose a challenge when it comes to joining the college or university.
