  5. AmeriCorps VISTA VISTA Members build capacity in nonprofit organizations and communities to help bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Core Principles: • Ending poverty • Empowering communities • Building capacity • Creating sustainable solutions

  7. Texas Health and Human Services HHS oversees the operation of the health and human services system. HHS has responsibility for strategic leadership, administrative oversight of Texas health and human services system programs, and provides direct administration of some programs. HHS oversees: • Eligibility Determination • System Planning and Evaluation • Policy Development and Rule-making • Ombudsman Services • Aging Programs

AWLW VISTA Project Background Original Project Goals: • Enhance and expand the AWLW campaign by providing a VISTA member in seven pilot AAAs. • Provide existing collaboratives with support. • Strengthen efforts to inform older adults about healthy aging. • Establish AWLW collaboratives in areas without an existing aging-focused collaborative. • Support community efforts to identify programs and services that can assist the growing older adult population, specifically those living in poverty.

AWLW VISTA Project Background Year 1: • Five VISTA members working out of four sites. • One VISTA leader at HHS to provide support. • Three sites with recruiting struggles. • New VISTA members started their year with an asset mapping orientation project. • Complete monthly reports Project Accomplishments: • Two collaboratives provided with enhanced support. • Two AAAs were able to submit grant applications with VISTA support. • New projects started at four AAAs. • Collaboration with other CNCS program at one AAA. • New partnerships made at all AAAs.
