  1. Christian Center Elementary Computers

Computer Lab Update • Updates to our computer lab will be happening mid-February (during President’s Day Break). • Upgraded Dell Computers • Wireless Capabilities • New Multi-Switch Server • Upgraded Microsoft Software – Uniform on all machines. • Current systems in computer lab will be moving out into the classrooms.

  3. Mrs. Carmen Toole • Teaches all computer classes for Kindergarten through Fifth grade. • 4th Year at CCE (3rd Year teaching Computers) • 2001 Graduate of Dakota State University • Elementary Education and Special Education with a Computer Education Endorsement • Married for almost 6 years with no children.

Kindergarten • Curriculum Activities • Basic use and knowledge of computer parts. • Designing Pictures in Drawing Program – Kid Pix • Alphabet Book – students design pages for all letters of the alphabet throughout the course of the year. At the end of the year, a book of all their work is printed out and sent home. • Educational Software • Arthur Kindergarten • Reader Rabbit Reading, Thinking, and Math.

First Grade • Curriculum Activities • Basic use and knowledge of computer parts. • Design Activities where students make pictures in Kid Pix program for a purpose. • Ex: Designing a Shoe, Picking out items that begin with a certain letter, • Creating Stories in a Storybook program called Storybook Weaver Deluxe • Favorite Memory, Seasons, Bible story, etc. • Using Internet and Drawing program together to present a project – Neighborhood Poster with a map of the part of town they live in along with pictures of their house and things near where they live.

First Grade - Continued • Educational Software or Websites – use a variety of different programs to learn reading, writing, math and thinking skills. • Keyboarding – Learning where the keys are on the computer as well as typing using the Home Row. • Using Internet to hunt for answers – Scavenger Hunts where students look for answers to specific questions – Nursery Rhymes, Fun with Shapes, and Owning a Dog. • Beginning usage of Microsoft Software • Spelling Lists in Word, Graphing Skittles in Excel, Cards in Publisher, etc.

Second Grade • Curriculum Activities • Determining input/output devices remembering Computer Parts. • Designing for a specified purpose using Kid Pix • Realistic/Abstract pictures, City Skyline, Math worksheet using pictures for a friend to solve, Spring Flowers, and Life Cycle of a Butterfly. • Keyboarding – Begin learning basic typing skills using a typing program. • Writing detailed stories with pictures and sentences in Storybook Weaver Deluxe. • Pioneer Adventure Story, First Snow, Bible Story. • Copying and illustrating a poem

Second Grade – Continued • Using Internet to hunt for answers – Scavenger Hunts where students look for answers to specific questions – Christopher Columbus, Forest Animals, . • Research using the Internet – Animal Research Project • Educational Software and Websites • Beginning usage of Microsoft Software • Charting Surveys in Excel, Writing Psalms in Word, Cards in Publisher, etc. • Coordinate activities with classroom learning – Food Pyramid Game – health information

Third Grade • Curriculum Activities • Care & Safety for Computers and other hardware • Organizing files and folders for greater ease of using computer. • Keyboarding – Following plan used in software, typing using correct touch typing methods to become faster and more accurate typists. • Designing using Kid Pix drawing program – house, seasons, animal, slide show presenting a Bible story, money pieces, etc • Using Microsoft Software with more details • Planet Postcard (using drawing tools) in Word, Self Description & How To Build A Snowman in Power Point, Designing Pictures in Paint, Endangered Species Newsletter in Publisher,

Third Grade – Continued • Using Internet to • hunt for answers – Scavenger Hunts where students look for answers to specific questions – Thanksgiving, • View information – Online stories • Complete web quests – Designing and drawing blue prints for a house plan. • Research – Endangered Species Report • Educational Software & Websites • Jeopardy Game, too!

  16. Fourth Grade – Continued • Use Internet to: • Hunt for answers – Scavenger Hunts where students look for answers to specific questions – Thanksgiving, Computer Parts, • View information – Online stories • Research – State Reports • Educational Software & Websites • Jeopardy Game, too!

Fifth Grade • Knowledge of desktop, files/folders, care and safety of computers, and bits & bytes. • Keyboarding – Touch Typing using Typing Program. • Use of Microsoft Software • Input data for payroll in Excel, Write stories in Word, Planet Power Point, Make graphs in Excel, Design a business with flyers, pricelists, and logo – Publisher, Paint, Excel, Word (all included), Email with Outlook, Graduation Slideshow using Power Point.

Fifth Grade – Continued • Use Internet to: • Hunt for answers – Scavenger Hunts where students look for answers to specific questions –Computer Parts, • View information – Online stories • Research – Planet Power Points • Design Software to: • Make a slideshow of a Christmas Carol • Design a logo for an invented company Educational Software & Websites • Jeopardy Game, too!
