  6. FERPA The Registrar is the official recorder and keeper of all student academic records, past and present. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education recordsand grants the student the right to inspect and review their own educational records, to request amendment of records, and to have some control over the disclosureof information from these records.

FERPA • Non-Directory – Private Information • Social security number • Student ID number • Current class schedule • Grades • Class rosters • Ethnicity • Race • Disciplinary actions • Academic actions • Courses completed Directory – Public Information Name Date and place of birth Addresses Telephone numbers Major and minor fields of study Honors and awards Dates of attendance All degrees earned and dates awarded Weight and height of athletes

  8. FERPA Schools may disclose "directoryinformation” without consent. However, schools must tell students about directory information and give students a reasonable amount of time to request that the school not disclose their directory information. Schools must notify students annually of their rights under FERPA. FERPA FERPA allows schools to disclose those records, without consent, to the following parties or under the following conditions: School officials with legitimate educational interest; Specified officials for audit or evaluation purposes; Appropriate parties in connection with financial aid to a student; Organizations conducting certain studies for or on behalf of the school; Accrediting organizations; To comply with a judicial order or lawfully issued subpoena; Appropriate officials in cases of health and safety emergencies
