  2. How do reflective journals relate to our course objectives? • Comprehensive understanding of ethical principles, responsibilities, contexts • Capacity for moral consciousness (instead of moral blindness or moral complacency) • awareness of the diversity of possible choices and value perspectives; ability to respect and appreciate the moral commitments and beliefs of others; and self-awareness of your own moral values, perspectives, beliefs and choices • Capacity to detect and address bias, discrimination and lack of empathy • Learning from experiences of moral uncertainty, ambiguity, dissent, and moral distress 300/330 - appleby

  3. 8 reflections – now what? Review your weekly journal entries • Use a coloured pen or highlighter to mark phrases or sentences that: • express insights into your own learning experiences • contain central understandings of moral perspectives • reveal significant moral commitments that you hold • identify your own misconceptions or biases Each journal entry should have at least one highlighted phrase 300/330 - appleby

  4. Suggested guiding questions for reflection: Use one or more of the following questions to assist you in articulating the most significant elements of your moral development in this term: • What core values, attitudes, or beliefs emerged as you worked through the self–reflection activities? Were there any surprises? • Describe a situation, topic or question that was emotionally significant for you. Describe your response and suggest one or more reasons for it. • How might your central values influence you as a helping person? 300/330 - appleby

  5. What major qualities or strengths do you have that will be an asset to you as a health care provider / teacher/or other professional? • What weaknesses or unresolved issues might interfere with your work as a health care provider/teacher/other professional? • Do limitations in your life experience or particular prejudices hinder your ability to understand and relate to certain clients? How might you overcome your personal limitations? • Given your moral perspectives, what value conflicts would you most likely encounter as a health care provider/teacher/other professional? How will you resolve those conflicts? 300/330 - appleby
