  1. Strategic Sourcing Principles for Designing a Great Sourcing Strategy

  2. My Assumptions About You Assumptions • A wide-range of experiences • Working in various capacities • Expertise in recruitment and related disciplines • Various levels of professional ranks • You could be teaching me…

  3. Definition The process of identifying candidates for the organization. What is Sourcing?

  4. What is Strategic Sourcing? Definition Strategic sourcing is a standard and formal process that incorporates on-going analysis to evaluate the right mix of tools and techniques to improve candidate generation performance and to reduce the total cost of recruiting them.

  5. Analyze Market Identify Requirements Strategic Sourcing Process Benchmarking Run queries/ conduct searches keywords strategies Develop Strategy Hand-off to recruiter Analyze need Strategic Sourcing Traditional Sourcing

  6. Run queries/do searches Pre-screen/ Hand-off to recruiter Analyze needs Develop Strategy Keywords strategies Analyze Market Identify Requirements Define what you are looking for. Begin a planning process, assessing requirements. Identify each important concept, focusing on the skill more so than keywords Research terms/synonyms and tool selection, elaborating each concept term, being aware of information environment structure & tool search options. Tools Wikipedia, webopedia, foldoc, acronymfinder

  7. what you are looking for.

  8. The primary responsibilities of the EDA Analyst is development of design processes, flows, and methodology and the corresponding development and/or implementation of technical applications to effect FNC Product Development with a focus on decreasing design cycle time, improving quality, and reducing cost. Typical application areas for this position include Verilog based RTL design, i.e. Synthesis, Simulation and Verification, and includes interfaces to the systems that support product lifecycle management, i.e. source code revision control, configuration management, engineering change/release management, etc. This EDA Analyst position is to provide ClearCase flow design, development, implementation and support of the ClearCase design environment in support of ASIC and FPGA engineers involved in product design and development. ClearCase UCM is used to satisfy the work-in-progress revision control and configuration management requirements of the RTL and Verification engineers. The environment incorporates commercial EDA tools that are used to capture and verify the design. Automation is provided in perl and make to create a flow that supports concurrent engineering in an efficient manner.

  11. Run queries/do searches Analyze Market Develop Strategy Keywords strategies Hand-off to recruiter Analyze needs Identify Requirements Think of possible companies that would have the perfect candidate. Create a target list of companies you wish to penetrate. Be sure to include physical address, phone number, and website information. Use research tools to find information about an target companies. Search within those companies for hidden talent. Research candidates employed by them. Define where you are targeting. Tools Hoover’s, Business.com, linkedIN, zoominfo

  12. I’ve included a sample spreadsheet I maintained as I reviewed resumes. Thru every stage of your search maintain a lookout for companies may have your candidate type within their organization. Make it a practice to kept a listing of them as pictured below. These are possible targets as well.

  13. Look thru any internal applicant tracking system, contact database any or professional network you may have access to for any names within your target organization.

  14. Run queries/do searches Identify Candidate Develop Strategy Identify keywords Hand-off to recruiter Analyze needs Analyze Market Define your target’s habits. What does their world consist of? What you know about the habits of the target candidate. What magazines or journals do they read? What conferences might they attend? Who do they talk to everyday? What are they like? Anything else you view as important and that you think I have a need to know. Tools Google blog search, bloglines, rss, forums …

  15. As you set up your search, don’t forget to keep up with the schools that possible candidates may have come out of. Any school that may offer that have the type of degree your prospect may have. Make a list of all applicable ones. Later on in your search they may be useful to either network with the professors or to look for their alumni associations.

  16. Also don’t forget to compile and maintain a list of newsgroups, discussion forums, or blogs where prospective candidates are likely to congregate in.

  17. Run queries/do searches Identify Requirements Analyze Market Develop Strategy Identify keywords Hand-off to recruiter Analyze needs So far we have focused on setting up the research for our sourcing. We have defined our prospect and area of focus with various networking possibilities, primarily through our internal resources. Now we are well positioned to make some decisions. Passive vs. Active sourcing channels, etc.. Where do we search? Tools Google, Altavista, live, exalead

  18. search engines... • Have different coverage • different search features • different algorithms for sorting results • Compare search engines http://ranking.thumbshots.com/ Note: only works in Internet Explorer

  19. How do we go about our search? Basic keyword searches Advanced search techniques Advanced Search commands

  21. Run queries/do searches Identify Requirements Analyze Market Develop Strategy Keywords Strategies Hand-off to recruiter Analyze needs How do we search? search starts with one or just a few keywords; as it progresses additional keywords are connected using appropriate Boolean operators &/or attributes to create blocks Tools Google, Altavista, live, exalead

  31. Run queries/do searches Analyze Identify Requirements Analyze Market Develop Strategy Identify keywords Hand-off to recruiter The search Next, let’s explore some simple internet queries you can use to further research our target companies. Tools Google, Altavista, live, exalead

  32. First, let’s try some simple keyword searches. Lets use the name of our target company a phrase like “he is” one of our job titles and our target location for starters. The query should look something like: [Toyota “he is” project engineer “Los Angeles, CA”]

  33. We can also try “flipping” our target company. We can build from the previous query by just modifying it a bit. The query should now look something like: [linkdomain:www.toyota.com “he is” project engineer “Los Angeles, IL]

  34. We can also try “x-raying” our target company again by simply modifying our previous query a bit. Try: [host:toyota.com “he is” software java]
