Remarkable Tourist Places That Will Make Your Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra Awesome visitamarnath.com/blog/remarkable-tourist-places-that-will-make-your-shri-amarnath-ji-yatra-awesome August 5, 2022 Know what to see and where to head next while visiting Shri Amarnath Ji Cave. If you think Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is just a Hindu religious pilgrimage site, think again, for there exists a trail of unexplored places equally beautiful and mesmerising enough, lying stealthily amidst the snow-capped mountains and the untouched valleys. And if it’s not for the most famous Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, a few of these places might have very well gone unnoticed. Although Kashmir’s heavenly beauty is unmissable wherever one turns, only a handful of tourists are aware of the hidden gems one can access by trekking either of the known routes while visiting Shri Amarnath Ji Cave. Pahalgam and Baltal (Sonamarg) are where the pilgrims pitch their base camp and resume a day or long journey to witness the Holy Darshan of Baba Barfani. A few kilometers back and forth these destinations, and you will know what to see in Shri Amarnath Ji. For now, let us list them out here: the tourist places to visit in Shri Amarnath. 1. Sheshnag Lake 1/7

  2. The scenic beauty of Sheshnag Lake located at an altitude of 3590 metres. Image: Shutterstock Sheshnag Lake at 11,730 ft makes up for the most traditional route on your trail to Shri Amarnath Ji Cave. This lake has its origin mentioned in the mythological story of Amar Katha. Accessible only via the trek route, this oligotrophic lake can be reached by only those pilgrims who have chosen the Pahalgam route for their Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. Located 11 km from the first base camp, Chandanwari, the lake is greenish in colour, rich in quality and oxygen level, and the clear water is home to a few species of trout fishes. 2. Lidder River 2/7

  3. The River Lidder gushes by the scenic landscape of Pahalgam. Image: Flickr Where the water of Sheshnag lake joins, another is Lidder River in Pahalgam. Lidder East thus flows from the Sheshnag lake, whereas Lidder West originates from Kolahoi Glacier. The river flowing through the Pahalgam Valley makes it a sight to behold and is a spot for many adventure activities such as camping, river rafting, angling etc. The 73 km long stretch of this glacial river is famous for offering the thrill-seeking activity of rafting with levels ranging from moderate to difficult, classified into the Grade from I to IV. 3. Betaab Valley 3/7

  4. The picturesque valley is one of the major tourist attractions in Pahalgam. Image: Shutterstock Located approx 8 km from Chandanwari, the base camp of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is Betaab Valley. Formerly known as Hajan Valley, the scenic spot got its name from the hit 1983 movie Betaab, starring Amrita Singh and Sunny Deol. With the backdrop of Pir Panjal and Zanskar Himalayan Range, fenced with pine & cedar trees, and the melodious Lidder river flowing nearby, the beauty of Betaab is refreshingly new every time you arrive here. And so, it is naturally a hikers and campers retreat. 4. Baisaran 4/7

  5. Panoramic view of Baisaran Valley, Mini Switzerland. Image: Shutterstock On your way back from the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, pay a visit to Baisaran Valley. Located 5 km from the Pahalgam, this paradisiacal Valley is a major tourist attraction and famously dubbed the ‘Mini Switzerland’. Apart from being a top sightseeing place, the Valley also has its own list of adventurous activities to keep the visitors hooked, such as Ziplining, Zorbing, Horse Riding, Camping and more. 5. Kolahoi Glacier 5/7

  6. Kolahoi Glacier, the pyramid-shaped peak, is known as the Matterhorn of Kashmir. Image: Your Trek Mate For a trekker in you, the adventure never ends with just one. It keeps growing fondly, and if the trek just ended with covering Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, it is more so the reason to look for equally breathtaking and challenging trails. Kolahoi Glacier trek is one of those trails which is every trekker’s dream. The five-day trek is filled with every charm before you witness the ‘Goddess of Light’ as it is locally known and worshipped for providing and powering the major rivers such as Jhelum and Lidder. 6. Tarsar-Marsar Lake 6/7

  7. Lake Tarsar has the property of changing water colour throughout the day. Image: MEWS An absolutely magical place, the Twin Sister (Tarsar-Marsar lakes) is just a kilometre ahead of Pahalgam. Both lakes are located adjacent to each other and, as such, easily accessible. Though both lakes share common characteristics, Lake Tarsar has the property of changing water colour throughout the day. Marsar Lake, on the other hand, is more elusive, and a view from the top is surrounded by clouds covering the vista of the lake.
