First ever UN resolution: for the elimination from national armaments of atomic weapons and of all other major weapons adaptable to mass destruction 1 July 1968 – signing of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Signed on 1 July 1968. 2 Bargains: Those with NW agree to disarm & those without agree not to pursue them Nuclear Technology for peaceful purposes elevated to an ‘inalienable right’ But NO disarmament, and new states with nuclear weapons.

(but can’t divorce from rest of nuclear chain)

Actions Sign up @ www.icanw.org (or sign up sheets around) Distribute ICAN fliers/DVD etc - need to spread the word Hold a local event – talk up nuclear weapon issues Schools stuff: Learn Abolition – great new resource Sign up your Mayor to Mayors for Peace Sign up your Doctor to MAPW Take photo of yourself with ICAN placard – see website. Keep making links – NW with Uranium, waste, power etc.
