  1. Hyderabad has been historically known as the City of Pearls, City of the Nizamsand City of Lakes. Over the last few decades, it has emerged as the information technology capital of India (just second to Bangalore) with a huge number of multinational and Indian information technology and business process outsourcing companies setting up base here. This has spurred the growth of technical education in the city with a large number of engineering colleges being established. Over the years, the education landscape has become well diversified with as many as 13 universities present in the city.

  2. In more recent times, a number of MBA colleges have also been established in the city. Today the total count of MBA Colleges in Hyderabad is nearly 150. Several of these colleges are part of the state and private universities, a few of them are autonomous. Most of them offer part-time programs along with regular day programs. The city is home to a couple of top MBA colleges that rank within the top 10 and top 20 MBA colleges across India.

  3. Demand is significant The demand for MBA programs stems from the large number of information technology, business process outsourcing and other private companies present in Hyderabad and neighbouring areas. There is a growing need for business skills such as marketing, finance, operations management and human resources to augment the technical skills of the engineering talent that are already available in plenty. This skill gap has led to companies looking for MBA students in addition to engineers.

  4. So is the supply The supply of students for MBA colleges comes primarily from the large base of engineers in the city. Apart from students from Hyderabad and the rest of the state, the top 10 MBA Colleges in Hyderabad manage to attract students from other states as well. The intake for these colleges is a mix of fresh students (primarily with an engineering background) with no work experience and those who have worked a few years in information technology and other companies.

  5. Placements is the key driver MBA education is expensive in Hyderabad like most other cities in India however, students do not mind shelling out the money thanks to the optimistic placement scenario of most of these colleges driven by the booming local and national economy. The primary reason for students to seek MBA education in Hyderabad is the large number of job opportunities available with companies in the city that require business skills, mostly in combination with a technical background. Most companies offer much higher salaries to MBAs as compared to engineers with the same level of experience.

  6. These companies offer summer jobs, part-time projects and campus placements at these MBA colleges to recruit students. The top MBA colleges also attract reputed companies from across India. Hyderabad, as city has transformed itself many times. So, it won’t be surprising if it emerges as the MBA capital of India after being technical education capital.
