  4. Dirty word #3OBEY

  5. Guilty! • We did teach it… • a lot… • because God says it’s so important.

  6. Why is it so important? Obedience displays our love, Trust & Submission.

  7. Look at what Jesus says: Matthew 7:21-23 Luke 6:46 Luke 9:23 John 14:15

  8. So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.(Philippians 2:12-13)

  9. You are what you do when no one is looking.

  10. Then Samuel said to Saul, “The LORD sent me to anoint you as king over His people, over Israel; now therefore, listen to the words of the LORD. Thus says the LORD of hosts, ‘I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he set himself against him on the way while he was coming up from Egypt. Now go and strike Amalek and utterly destroy all that he has, and do not spare him; but put to death both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”(I Samuel 15:1-3)

  11. “Blessed are you of the LORD! I have carried out the command of the LORD.” But Samuel said, “What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?” Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites, for the people spared the best of the sheep and oxen, to sacrifice to the LORD your God; but the rest we have utterly destroyed.”(I Samuel 15:13b-15)

  12. “But the people took some of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the choicest of the things devoted to destruction, to sacrifice to the LORD your God at Gilgal.” Samuel said, “Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has also rejected you from being king.” (I Samuel 15:21-23)

  13. We Are So Blessed! (John 14) Something to look forward to. Something to do. Someone to love.

  14. Something to look forward to: The Father’s house (v2) The Son’s return (v3)

  15. Something to do: Believe in me (v1) Work for me (v12) Ask for me (v13-14) Obey me (v15)

  16. Someone to love: Our love for God produces obedience (v15, 21, 23-24) God’s love gives us comfort and confidence (v16-20)
