  1. Taiwan towards Grids • New Activities in Taiwan • Networkadministrated and operated by NCHC • TANET/I2:90Mbps to Seattle Peered with Abilene(29/Oct/2001) . <http:// www.tanet2.net.tw> • NBEN(National Broadband Experimental Network): 155Mbps backbone connects major research institutes and universities of Taiwan<http://www.nben.net.tw>. The network will be used as a national grid testbed in Jan/2002. • Testbeds & Development • Simulation Grid on NBEN led by NCHC • BioGrid led by Academic Sinica (new network deployed) • Special interests • Agriculture (e.g. rice genome) • Earth Monitoring (e.g. Typhoon or earth quack watch) • Tele-Manufacturing • Digital Library • Education (AP regional virtual university on Grid) • Economics, Epdemics etc. • Problems • We cannot provide persistent testbed. But we are working on a possible solution, i.e. BOD (Bandwidth on Demand). We are open to other possibilities. • We have to find a mechanism for how to form and sustain an international working group. SC Global, SC2001, 13/Nov/2001, Denver
