(This does not apply to absences.) • How you can help your students complete work? • Please encourage your student to e-mail us from their AA e-mail. • Check Infinite Campus every day. (We make time for students to do this each day during the first Study Hall.) • Check their planner. • Have a month long calendar available to fill in and post when the student can see it each day.

  7. 5th Grade Policy on Early Homework Requests • The Fifth Grade always posts homework on IC. However, it typically does not give out homework early if a student knows in advance that they will be absent.

  8. Being a Self-Advocate • In order to help your child have a successful transition between Elementary and Middle School, it is important that they learn to self-advocate. There are many reasons for this: • Developing a relationship with the teacher • Taking ownership for their questions, problems, or concerns • Developing a sense of empowerment knowing that they can work through their own issues at school with the help of the teacher

  9. Team Effort Between Parents and Teachers • Fifth grade teachers strive to work with parents to help the students be successful. • Open communication is important. • Please email teachers first with any concerns or issues.

  10. Go Math American Academy uses the Go Math! curriculum program for mathematics. Go Math! is a perfect complement to our STEM emphasis because it encourages learning through exploration and investigation instead of memorization of a procedure. Go Math! asks students to defend answers, encouraging comprehension of a process rather than seeking a specific answer. By including reflective written responses, the Go Math! learning curriculum solidifies a richer understanding of mathematics. American Academy also implements flexible ability grouping based on student mastery of the content with the Go Math! program.
