Peter Preached First Gospel Sermon P • Fulfillment of the Prophets • (vs. 16) “...spoken by the prophet Joel...” • (vs. 25) “For David spoke concerning him...” • Preached the Death, Burial, Resurrection • (vs 32-33) – Climax of the Sermon • This is the Gospel – Good News of Salvation • (1 Cor 15:3-4) “ 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”

Empowered With the Holy Spirit P E • Spirit foretold to come w/ Power • (Acts 1:8) “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” • The Spirit Came (vs. 1-4) • The Purpose was to Give Instruction: • (John 16:12-13; 14:25-26) • Teach & Remind – Further Instructions

Three Thousand Added P E • (vs. 41) “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.” • Added to the Church by the Lord: • (vs. 47) “Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” • Added to the Lord: • (Acts 5:14) “And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.” N T

  5. Exaltation of Christ Announced P E • Christ is exalted: • (vs 33-36) • Seated at the right hand of God • Foes will be made a footstool • Lord and Christ • Christ now has all Authority: (Matt 28:18) N T E

Exaltation of Christ Announced P E • Christ speaks of His coming Kingdom: • (Luke 22:29-30) “29 And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me; 30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” • (Col 1:13) “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.” • There is no promise of a future Kingdom • Pentecost proclaimed the Kingdom N T E

Church Established P E • Church and Kingdom is the Same • (Matt 16:18-19) “ 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” • “I Will” Indicates future event • (Acts 1:6) “When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?” • After Resurrection of Christ N T E C

Church Established P E (Mark 9:1) “And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.” • The Church was Established on Pentecost • Kingdom was to come with power • Power was to come with Holy Ghost • Holy Ghost came on Pentecost • Therefore, Kingdom (church) came on Pentecost • Church established and continues onward N T E C (Acts 1:8) “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Oath of God Fulfilled P E • (vs 30-32) • God swore that He would raise up Christ of David's seed to sit on David's throne • (2 Sam 7:12-13) “ 12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.” • Peter said this referred to the resurrection and seating of Jesus (vs 30-34) • Therefore, Christ is now seated – reigning N T E C O

Start of Last Days P E • Peter said Joel's Prophecy of the “Last Days” were being fulfilled on Pentecost • (vs 16-20) • Will continue as long as people are “Calling on the Name of the Lord” (vs 21) • (Isa 2:2-3) “ 2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. 3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. Terms of Salvation Proclaimed P E • (vs 21) “Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” • How? • (vs 37) – Faith is seen by their plea • (vs 38) “Repent and be Baptized... in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. • These are still God's terms today • Also remember: (vs 41-42) N T E C O S T
