  2. Definition :] Ballad is a poem that tells a story similar to a folk tale or legend and often has a repeated refrain. The second and fourth lines of each verse rhyme. The basic form for ballads is iambic heptameter (seven sets of unstressed, stressed syllables per line), in sets of four.
