  1. Good Morning • Have out your analysis questions #2, 4 & 5 pg. E-10 • Have your Science Books and pen/pencil ready to begin class!

  2. Agenda • Objective • Discuss Analysis Questions • Set up Journal Act. 75 • Activity 75 • Homework

  3. Objective • Students will be able to analyze, compare, and draw conclusions using distance vs. time graphs.

  4. Analysis Questions • #2-According to your data from Part B, what is the effect of release height on speed? • #4- What part of your experimental design in Part B -increased & decreased confidence • #5-What is a car’s speed in m/s if it travels: • A. 5 meters in 0.1 seconds=50 m/s • B. 5 meters in 0.2 seconds=25 m/s • C. 10 meters in 0.3 seconds

  5. Activity 75: Interpreting Motion Graphs • Date: 2/8/12 • Challenge Question: How can you use a graph to describe motion? • Getting Started: When you measured the speed of a cart rolling down a track, do you think the carts were going the same speed the whole time?

  6. Getting Started • The cart started at 0 m/s and then sped up to its top speed. Then it eventually slowed down and ended up at 0 m/s again. • You found the average speed over a distance of 100 cm.

  7. Pre-lab • 1. acceleration • 2. deceleration • 3. slope • 4. motion graph

  8. Introduction pg. E-12 • The road from Josh’s andTeasha’s houses to the school is straight, and a trip directly to school wouldn’t require any turning. • What type of motion is shown? • Why?

  9. (Distance vs. Time )Motion Graph • These graphs describe and interpret motion as linear (constant & straight) • Features in the motion graph: -a straight line indicates constant speed -a horizontal line indicates no motion, or 0 speed. -a + sloped line (upward) indicates motion away from start point - a – sloped line (downward) indicates motion toward start point

  10. Motion Graph - a steeper slope indicates a faster speed - a curved line of changing slope indicates acceleration- change (increase) in speed

  11. Motion Graph

  12. Slope • A constant rate of change • slope =the change in y /the change in x

  13. Pg. E-13 • Materials pg. • Procedure: Read steps #1-5 *Show student sheets for the activity

  14. Activity 75 • Work with your partner and complete steps #1-5 in the procedure • Finally product needs to be turned in at the end of class to receive full credit!

  15. Homework • Analysis Questions #1-3 pg. E-14 • Extra Credit Due Friday Analysis #6 & Extension #2- Act. 74 pg. E-10
