  1. Patient Online NHS England Updated 20 February 2014

  2. Patient online vision “Patients are enabled to take greater control of their own health and wellbeing; supported by their general practice offering a range of digital services. Every patient who wishes to, has online access to services at their convenience”

  3. Patient online vision “General practice teams are confident to offer Patient Online digital services to enhance the quality of patient care... especially for patients that general practice teams know will benefit the most from Patient Online.”

  4. What is Patient Online? Repeat prescriptions online View your GP record E-communication with your general practice GP appointments online

  5. Why is this happening? We want to make sure that patients are informed and involved in decisions about their own care and treatment and can take advantage of the choices available to them.

  6. How will we do it? Together we will develop new ways of working which will make it easier for patients to access GP services. Guidance for patients will be developed to ensure they can easily use the new online services available to them. Listen to patients to ensure they are at the centre of Patient Online’s vision.

  7. How will we do it? Support GP practices to take advantage of tools and systems which enable them to offer these online services to patients. Work with GP practices to make sure that staff have access to the guidance, tools and information they need. Put them in touch with GP surgeries who are already successfully offering online services. Work closely with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), nurses, practice staff and patient representatives

  8. When will this be happening? Royal College of General Practitioners publishes Patient Online: The Road Map (available at www.rcgp.org.uk/patientonline) • 64% of GP practices offer online appointments • 65% offer repeat prescriptions online • 79% of GP practices have technical capability to provide access to patient records • 2.3% provide patients access to their records • All GP practices offer online appointment management, prescription management and access to patient records
