  1. The OPTS Project (OPtimization of a Thermal energy Storage system with integrated steam generator) Joao Farinha Mendes LNEG – Laboratorio Nacional de Energia e Geologia

  2. Storage Modelling - Task 3.2 Task 3.2: Analysis, modeling and simulation of the thermo-cline Storage Tank with internal filler Duration: T0+18 Partners involved: CIEMAT, LNEG, Weizmann Inst., CEA, Fraunhofer Inst., CNRS, CREF-Cyl Description: This task includes the development of the numerical models for simulating and analyzing the thermo-fluid-dynamics of thermo-cline Storage Tanks with internal filler, with the goal of comparing this concept with the stratified MS storage tank: Based on its experience on mathematical modelling of Double Diffusion processes, LNEG will perform MS-thermocline analytical and numerical modelling investigation under transient conditions of the TES-SG operation, also in order to minimize the undesired transient thermal effects and to determine the limiting design and operating parameters and proper regimes of charging and discharging the storage. …

  3. Storage Modelling - Task 3.2 • Until now we have performed a State of the Art Revision concerning • Thermoclines behaviour; • Physical/mathematical interaction with species and needed equations; • Methods of modeling this kind of problems; A first model less complicated is on study. As soon as some conclusions will be adressed from this one we will abord the model himself hoping that more definitions will be furnished at that time. For this first approach we are trying an integral solution for the problem instead of the More strong approach with finite elements, easily performed in a CFD as the case of the FLUENT-Ansys. This first approach can give some ideas of the thermocline behaviour that could be usefull when working with a CFD, for instance optimizing the time of the modeling. • Weneed some specificationsconcerningtheproblem to bemodelednamely: • Thecharacteristicsofthe material to beemployed; • Theirproperties; • A CAD design oftheprototype;
