Warm-up Directions: You will find a handout on your desk. • Please use complete sentences and each response must be 3-5 sentences long. • Please raise your hand quietly if you have a question. • If you finish early, silently read the class syllabus that is also on your desk. • This is a silent activity!

  9. How will I be Graded? • Everything we do, everyday is important! • Warm-ups /Classwork 40% • Grade in English 12 30% • Participation 30% • 10 points/day • Tentative breakdown: • 2 points - on time • 3 points – behavior • 5 points – on task/contribution to discussions

  11. Guideline #1 • Treat everyone with respect at all times.

  12. Guideline #2 • Be in your assigned seat and working on the assigned warm-up activity when the tardy bell rings.

  13. Guideline #3 • Bring all books and materials to class AND take them when you leave.

  14. Guideline #4 • Follow directions the FIRST time they are given.

  15. Guideline #5 • Follow all procedures and policies of this class and FBHS.

  16. Special guideline #1 • This classroom is a “No Whining Zone” • That means that there will be no whining, for ANY reason. • Everything that I do is in your best interest, so please respect the “No Whining Zone” this year.

  17. Special guideline #2 • This classroom is a “No Cell Zone” • What does this mean? • During class your cell phone must off. Period! • Following this rule is a sign of respect toward Mr. Carr and your fellow classmates. • Not to mention, this is a school-wide rule.

Special guideline #3 • RESPECT THIS SPACE! • My home away from home • Desks and Chairs • Keep them, and your feet on the floor. • No Food Allowed • Break and lunch will arrive soon enough • Water with a lid is okay • Mr. Carr’s personal items • Don’t touch, and all will be well • My Whiteboard

  19. Severe Clause • Any student who uses profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), or is disrespectful (as defined my the teacher) will be sent to the office IMMEDIATELY.

  20. Following guidelines will result in… • Verbal acknowledgement • A stress-free learning environment • A pleasant and orderly classroom atmosphere

  21. When you are tardy… • Enter quietly. • Excused: Place excuse in the basket on my desk. • Have a seat and take out your materials. • Unexcused: Sign the Tardy List on the clipboard by the door. • Trust me, you want to show up on time!

  22. Class Dismissal • The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. • Do not start packing up prior to the bell. • I will not let you go on time if this happens. • Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with: “Have a nice day!”

  23. Getting your attention I will… • Stand in front of the class. • Raise my hand. • Wait for everyone to be quiet • Begin speaking

Non Volunteers • When I need a volunteer • Rather than ask for a volunteer • I will ask a question and will usually ask you to discuss the answer with a partner. • When time to discuss is up, I will use my cell phone to randomly choose someone in the room to answer. • Why would I do this? • This will keep you paying attention and help you to learn the material faster.

  26. After an excused absence • Go to the homework notebook. • End of back table • Copy the homework in your reminder binder • Retrieve any handouts • Sign the notebook • Make-up work is not available for unexcused absences. • Other places to find missed work: • Mr. Carr’s webpage, WebLocker • Make up work is due the following day of your return if absent for one day.

  27. Scheduled check out • Please let me know as you enter the classroom. • I’ll be at the door. • Quietly raise your hand to get my attention. • Pack your materials and leave at the scheduled time. • If it is an emergency, quickly get my attention and I will assist you.

  28. Turning in papers • Place your paper on the desk next to you. • LEFT SIDE! • If/When you receive a paper, place yours on top and continue passing the stack to your left. • There is no need to disturb your neighbor, get out of your seat, or participate in any other disturbing behaviors during this time. • I will come by and collect all stacks.
