  14. “Probably the most important doctrinal fact underpinning the spiritual life is the believer’s union with Christ.” Dr. Charles Ryrie

  15. 1.Historically, Jesus died… • Was buried… • Was raised from the dead…” • His death and resurrection are the basis for all the consequences that follow. • Romans 6:4-10. Five times His death and resurrection are referred to!!!! “BAPTIZED INTO JESUS”

  16. 2.Personally, when we trust Christ as our Savior we are baptized into His body by the Holy Spirit. • “For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.” (1 Cor. 12:13) • Spirit baptism not water baptism. At salvation not some sort of 2nd blessing. “BAPTIZED IN JESUS”

  17. 3. Illustrated: The baptism of the Holy Spirit is pictured in water baptism every time a believer is obedient to Jesus’ command to be baptized. (Matt. 28:19) “BAPTIZED IN JESUS”

  18. 4. Practically, every day you need to “count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” (Rom. 6:11) “BAPTIZED IN JESUS”

  19. 1. He can give you life!!!!! (Col.2:13) • “God made you alive with Christ” (NIV) • “You…hath he quickened together with him” (KJV) • “He made you alive together with him” (NASB) • “He gave you a share in the very life of Christ” (Living Bible) What can Jesus do for me?

  20. 2. He can forgive all your sins!!!!! (Col.2:13), “He forgave us all our sins.” • “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Matt. 26:28) • Forgive—”sending our sins away so that they are never to be found.” • “As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” (Ps. 103:12) What can Jesus do for me?

  21. 3. Jesus can cancel your sin debt!!!!!! (Col.2:14) • “He canceled the written code”—the Mosaic law. • “He took it away.”--He wiped it out, lit. erased it. • “He nailed it to the cross”. What can Jesus do for me?

  22. 4. Jesus can give you victory over evil !!!!!! (Col.2:15) • “Triumphing over them by the cross.” • Satan thought he had won when Christ died on the cross. • But the cross of Christ was God’s instrument of defeating all foes. What can Jesus do for me?

  23. “That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted inChrist when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given…” Ephesians 1:19-21

  24. “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39

  25. Only Jesus can do all of these things. • He can give you life. • He can forgive your sins. • He can cancel your sin debt. • He can give you victory. • “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) What can Jesus do for me?

  26. “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10
