  2. Objectives • Identify the three types of service records (service, medical, financial) • Describe how to properly request service records utilizing PIES • Identify alternate sources for obtaining service record information

  3. Military Records • Service - Military personnel records (OMPF – Also known as 201) • Health - Service Treatment Records/Dental Records (STRs) • Financial Records • Any records kept on service member

  4. Locating Records • National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) • Records Management Center (RMC)

  5. Computer Resources BIRLS Delivery Network • Veteran’s Identification Data (VID) • Folder Management (LOC) • Miscellaneous (MSC)

  6. Requesting Records Shotgun Effect: • Letters – Veteran, Adjutant General • Electronic Requests – PIES, Covers, e-mail

  7. Alternate Record Sources • Review of DD214 and solicitation of additional information from claimant • Reserve Units • State Adjutant’s Office

  8. Fire Cases – July 12, 1973 Army: All records from Nov 1, 1912 to Jan 1, 1960 Air Force: 75% of records Sep 25, 1947 to Jan 1, 1964 – “Hubbard” to “Z” • Use NA Forms 13055 and 13075
