  3. INTENISVE FAMILY SERVICES (IFS) goal is to: • keep youth at home • in the community • and out of jail.

  4. In order to accomplish this goal the IFS program has two experienced master’s level counselors that work with five families for a six month period. • In order for a client to be considered for IFS the doctor must first agree that the center’s most intensive services are needed to keep the child at school, in the family and out of jail.

  5. The IFS counselors provide intensive services by spending time in the home, helping caregivers learn how to deal with their child’s negative behaviors and teaching important parenting skills. The counselors also provide needed support for caregivers who feel isolated and frustrated.

  6. IFS counselors also spend a lot of time at the child’s school to observe behavior and be present if the child starts to act put. Hopefully, the IFS counselor can be in the classroom and intervene before the child’s behavior gets him into trouble. The IFS counselors can help the teacher better understand the child’s diagnosis and have a better understanding of if the child is on any medication.

  7. IFS counselors also take the client out in the community to expose them to different activates and teach them how to properly interact with society. For example, during the summer IFS joins with the WRAPS to allow clients to attend the summer camp program which also asks the caregivers to attend at least one group in order for them to understand the goals that their child is working on in camp.
